NEW WASHINGTON — With its Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball winning streak in danger, Buckeye Central rose to the occasion, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Mohawk, 25-17, 26-28, 16-25, 25-16, 15-9, on Thursday night in New Washington.

CAREY — Dylan Grothaus shot a career-best 40 to lead Carey to a 174-191 victory against Wynford in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf action Thursday at Bob’s Countryside Golf Course. Grothaus eagled No. 5, with Ethan Tanner doing the same and shooting a 42. Kole Phillips and Carter Frederick both finished with 46s.

CAREY — Colonel Crawford won a pair of close sets and swept Carey, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16, in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday night.

The Upper Sandusky Community Library is hoping to raise awareness about and expand upon its current homebound service. “If you can’t get out of your house to come to the library whether it’s age, injury, disability or convenience, our homebound volunteers will deliver to you,” Upper Sandusky Community Library Director Kathleen Whitt said.

The Rev. Elaine J. Clinger Sturtz recently completed her fifth book and this one has a special personal connection. “Life Lessons of a Lone Trooper” is about Sturtz’ late husband of 25 and a half years, David D. Sturtz, who died in September 2015.

Although he’s a junior and has run track at Riverdale High School, Eli Weber is running cross country for the first time this season. The Icebreaker Invitational on Wednesday at Upper Sandusky’s Harrison Smith Park was his first race.

Carey’s varsity cheerleaders took first place in the large division in the Holgate Cheerleaders Gone Mad competition. Mandy Baldwin’s Mustard Seed Marketplace is on the move. The art, craft, home decor and furniture shop moved to its new location at 132 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, two weeks ago on Aug. 7.

Upper Sandusky High School students have a new feature greeting them each morning in the commons near the school entrance. The Robert P. Lee Distinguished Alumni Award area was completed just over one week ago before the high school open house.
