MOUNT BLANCHARD — Hope Kreais had 12 kills to lead Hopewell-Loudon to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-17 victory against Riverdale in a Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball match Monday. Peyton Hoover added nine kills and Olivia Savidge seven kills and three aces for the Chieftains (10-12, 5-6 BVC).

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale took a two-goal lead early in the second half and then held off Kenton the rest of the way for a 2-1 win in a non-conference girls soccer matchup on Saturday. Riverdale (8-4-2) controlled play for almost the entire first half, keeping the ball in the Kenton end of the field and taking a 1-0 lead 18:44 into the game when Hanna Breidenbach scored off an assist from Brooke Kuenzli.

Van Buren clinched a share of the boys North Central Ohio Soccer Association title with a 7-0 victory at Upper Sandusky on Saturday. The Black Knights (13-2, 4-1 NCOSA) will share the championship with Riverdale (6-4-3, 3-1 NCOSA) if the Falcons beat Cory-Rawson on Thursday night.

Mohawk seniors Alex Lersch and Molly Danner were named homecoming king and queen before the start of Friday’s football game against Bucyrus. Danner, a Sycamore native, is a daughter of Larry and Maria Danner. Lersch, a Melmore native, is a son of James and Mary Anne Lersch.

CAREY — Seneca East coach Ed Phillips was not overly disappointed when his team gave up a touchdown play on the last play of the first half to trail by a touchdown at the break. He was more upset about his defensive line’s performance.

Wynford coach Gabe Helbert challenged his defense all week coming into Friday’s game against Upper Sandusky after having its 33-game Northern 10 Athletic Conference winning streak snapped by Seneca East. The Royals rose to the occasion in a big way, and at times, the defensive secondary players may as well have felt as if they were playing on offense.

An Upper Sandusky man was sentenced to nearly five years in prison for marijuana cultivation and Medicaid fraud Thursday afternoon in the Wyandot County Courthouse. William S. Rimmer appeared for sentencing Thursday after pleading guilty to marijuana cultivation and Medicaid fraud, second and fifth degree felonies.
