ATTICA — The Upper Sandusky wrestling team took second of 24 teams Saturday in the Seneca East Invitational. Mohawk finished fourth and Carey was 10th in the tournament.

Mohawk senior Madi Chester signed her national letter of intent on Friday to play volleyball at Ohio Northern University. “One of the volleyball coaches contacted me and they had come and watched one of our games and they said they were interested in me. I went on a visit to see if I liked it. Ada is a small town, so it feels like home, because it’s like Sycamore. There’s not too many people, it’s all close together; it feels like home.”

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Cheerleaders from around the state showcased their best school spirit Sunday afternoon for the 2019 Melinda K. Justice Winter Cheer Extravaganza at Riverdale High School. This was the competition’s 10th year, named after Mindi Justice, a Riverdale junior cheerleader who died May 10, 2009, after an automobile accident.

CAREY — Needing a bounce-back performance to remain atop the Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball standings, Mohawk got it with a big first half before holding off Carey late in a 53-47 victory Saturday night. The Warriors had their N10 lead cut to one when they suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday night against Colonel Crawford, and another loss to the Blue Devils on Saturday night would have created a three-way tie for first with the Eagles only a game back. Instead, Mohawk stays alone atop the N10.

NORTH ROBINSON — The Upper Sandusky boys swimming team is 3 for 3. The Rams won the North Central Ohio Swim championship by winning nine of 11 events for a team score of 398 on Saturday at the NCOS Championship at Colonel Crawford.

Union Elementary in Upper Sandusky celebrated a recent student achievement with an ice cream dance party Friday afternoon. Earlier this week, Union Elementary received a congratulatory email from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Paulo DeMaria, stating the Ohio Department of Education has named Union Elementary a 2018 High Progress School of Honor based on its 2017-2018 Ohio School Report Card.

CAREY — A hotly-contested Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls varsity basketball game between Carey and Wynford came down to the wire. With the score tied and 9.1 seconds remaining, Wynford’s guards passed the ball around the perimeter and the ball ended up in the hands of sophomore guard Lyndie Williams.

SYCAMORE — With future Warriors watching, the Mohawk girls basketball team wanted to have a good performance. They did, using a quick start to take a 56-48 victory against Bucyrus for their first home win of the season.

Wyandot County Sheriff Mike Hetzel has a history of not calling Level 1 snow emergencies, but he was put to the test on Saturday when the county was hit with heavy snow. The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office officially declared a snow emergency beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday, which was the equivalent of a Level 3.

Upper Sandusky High School hosted a special employer/student discussion panel this morning for the junior class with a goal of gaining insight into youth perceptions of employment opportunities, what employers want from youth and what youth want from employers in the community.
