BUCYRUS — This wasn’t the first time that Carey junior shortstop Hailey Niederkohr hit a home run to lead off the game. On Wednesday, Niederkohr, hitting lead off once again, crushed the first pitch she saw from Wynford pitcher Hannah Messmer over the fence in right center, setting the tone for a day in which the Carey softball team hit three home runs in their 12-1 run-rule victory over Wynford in six innings at Wynford.

BUCYRUS — A young Carey baseball team grew up a little Wednesday. Rather than folding when it lost an early lead, the Blue Devils buckled down and won their first Northern 10 Athletic Conference game by rallying for a 9-6 road victory against Wynford.

Local author and illustrator Kelsey McBride has completed her latest coloring book just in time for Easter. The Easter-themed “Kelsey and Friends in: Hip-Hoppin Easter” finished printing Tuesday and was picked up by McBride at A-1 Printing in Upper Sandusky.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Trailing by four runs heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Riverdale softball team rallied by scoring three runs but came up short in a 10-9 loss to Allen East on Tuesday at Riverdale. The Mustangs scored two runs in the first and second innings, three in the fourth inning, one in the fifth inning and two in the seventh inning to take a 10-6 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village Schools Board of Education met for its regular meeting Monday at South Elementary School, continuing in its series of visits to district schools. Classrooms were invited to choose projects that they have been working on to share with the board.

SYCAMORE – Mohawk found some offensive success against the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s top pitcher but it could not slow down Bucyrus’ offense in a 12-5 loss to the first-place Redmen on Monday in Sycamore. Paityn Clouse and Tess Weinandy each hit two-run home runs for the Warriors (7-3, 3-3 N10). But it was not nearly enough to match the 16 hits by Bucyrus (9-4, 6-0 N10).

SYCAMORE – Trevor Ley shut down Mohawk and got a five-run fourth inning from the offense as Bucyrus took a 5-2 victory in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball game Monday at Mohawk. Ley (2-2) limited Mohawk to six hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.
