SYCAMORE — Carey was eager to avenge a loss two days earlier, while Mohawk’s focus may have been elsewhere. The result was the Blue Devils pounding the Warriors 15-3 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Wednesday in Sycamore. Coming off a 6-3 loss to Upper Sandusky on Monday, Carey was seeking a bounce-back win from the get-go, scoring nine times in the first two innings, beginning with a home run by Hailey Niederkohr to lead off the game.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk’s Cole Widmer may have allowed an earned run for the first time this season, but thanks to his timely strikeouts, he remains undefeated on the season. Widmer (2-0) tossed a complete game, giving up eight hits, three runs (one earned) and two walks with 10 strikeouts in the Mohawk baseball team’s 7-3 victory over Carey on Wednesday at Mohawk.

Wyandot Dems discuss impact of addiction in the community

Tuesday, the Wyandot County Democrats hosted a community action event at the Upper Sandusky Community Library focused on the impact of drug addiction in the community. Speaking were Keith Durkin, a professor of sociology at Ohio Northern University, with a research area of interest in substance abuse; Wade Melton, director of programs for Hardin County juvenile court and director of Hardin Community School, a charter school that deals with children struggling with addiction and mental health; and Tristin Kilgallon, an assistant professor of criminal justice from Ohio Northern University.

The Upper Sandusky Police Department responded to a crash on the 100 block of East Wyandot Avenue Tuesday afternoon. At approximately 1:33 p.m., Glenn E. Vehrs, Harpster, backed from a parking space into East Wyandot Avenue, where his blue 1996 Buick was struck by a silver 2005 Honda driven by Sandra J. Deringer, Forest.

Family assisted after Sunday house fire

The American Red Cross is assisting an Upper Sandusky family after a two-story house fire Sunday night on Sunset Drive. An Upper Sandusky Police report states an officer responded to a fire on the 500 block of Sunset Drive at approximately 9:07 p.m. Sunday. The officer observed heavy smoke traveling north across the roadway and made contact with a female resident to confirm everyone was out of the home.

Upper girls edge Mohawk in tri-meet

SYCAMORE — Upper Sandusky’s girls edged Mohawk, while Bucyrus’ boys topped Upper Sandusky for first place in a track and field tri-meet Monday at Mohawk. The Rams girls won 70-66 over the Warriors, with the Redmen scoring 39 points. Bucyrus’ boys edged Upper Sandusky 69-66, with Mohawk scoring 40 points.

BUCYRUS — Sunday, residents, employees, students, graduates, alumni and supporters of Wynford Local School District came together for the Annual Community Luncheon held at the high school cafeteria. Superintendent Fred Fox said that the day is a 21-year strong tradition to which the community and school board has looks forward.

The Danny Garza Memorial Foundation held its first fundraising event of 2019 on Saturday, a “Pins with Friends” bowling fundraiser at Wyandot Lanes. Event organizer Brian Webb said 53 people bowled at the event, which raised over $1,000. Awards were handed out to the highest and lowest score for men and women and for most strikes.
