BUCYRUS — After 32 years in education, Jeanne Thompson, the elementary guidance counselor at Wynford is setting off on a new adventure. She graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1987, and started out teaching at Colonel Crawford, where she graduated high school just a few years earlier. Her schedule allowed her to have a wide range of experiences throughout the day with seventh grade art classes in the morning and regular kindergarten classes in the afternoon.

The Upper Sandusky Fire Department is once again raising funds for fire safety education in Upper Sandusky. Fire Chief Michael MaGinn explained that the annual fundraiser is conducted through the national fire safety council but said that all the money received in Upper Sandusky stays in the community.

The Wyandot County Council on Aging gave out free doughnuts and coffee this morning at Senior Connection in Upper Sandusky to celebrate National Doughnut Day.

Brett Montgomery, of Harpster, putts Thursday in the Ohio Amateur qualifier at Mohawk Country Club. Montgomery shot an 88 on the soggy course. Britton Hensel, of Kenton, a Tiffin University golfer, won with a 3-under-par 69.

An Upper Sandusky woman’s vehicle was a total loss following a fire Wednesday morning on U.S. 23/U.S. 30 northbound south of CH 330. The Upper Sandusky Fire Department reports it received a call at 11:02 a.m. from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office about the vehicle fire.

The sound of the approaching train grows louder and the noise from the bar lessens. Patrons look out the windows, where now all that is visible are train cars speeding past on the tracks right outside the front door. It’s not hard to understand why this place, which suddenly seems to be in a different era, has been beloved and maintained for a century and a half.

Fifty years after the Stonewall riots and the start of the modern gay rights movement, Upper Sandusky Mayor Scott Washburn presented a proclamation Tuesday recognizing June as Pride Month in Upper Sandusky, as it is recognized around the nation.

Brett and Brock Montgomery both came out on top in their divisions in the season-opening Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association tournament Tuesday at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. Brett Montgomery shot a 72, including an even-par 36 on each of his nine-hole rounds. He tallied six birdies on the day, including twice each on Nos. 5 and 7.

A packed house saw exotic animals from around the world Monday evening at the Upper Sandusky Library at the Michigan-based Exotic Zoo show.
