Ontario defeated the Upper Sandusky Black Marlins girls swimming team 238-82 and the boys 197-100 in a meet Wednesday at Harrison Smith Park.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The many titles that new Riverdale girls basketball coach Mickie Bonham has held over the years exemplify her love of being around children. She has been a coach. Bonham coached junior high girls basketball at Riverdale from 2004-2012 and for two years alongside Randy Baker at Arcadia while she was a student teacher in 1999 and then in 2000.

While Wyandot County will only send one new athlete to the Special Olympics State Summer Games this weekend, several things will be different. The Indians are not competing in unified volleyball or unified swimming this year, so several athletes have shifted to new sports, primarily track and field.

CAREY — Construction has begun on the new Taco Bell restaurant located off of South Vance Street near the U.S. 23 interchange. “They have broken ground,” Carey Assistant Village Administrator Nathan Curtis said.

CAREY — At each station of the scavenger hunt at the Space Exploration Day event Tuesday at the Dorcas Carey Public Library, students were one step closer to winning a prize. And every time they found a station, they acquired more knowledge about the solar system.

SANDUSKY — The Northern 10 Athletic Conference showed what a good baseball league it was during the season, and it did again Tuesday night. With a team made up mostly of N10 players, the Wyandot/Crawford County All-Star team held off Richland County 6-4 in one of the District 9 All-Star Baseball Games on Tuesday night at Sports Force Park in Sandusky.

BUCYRUS — In his report at Monday’s board of education meeting, Wynford Superintendent Fred Fox said the Wynford building project is three weeks behind due to recent rain. Fox said that the builders are currently working on compacting the soil where the new building will sit and putting down the building’s pad.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale Board of Education agreed to enter into a one-year food service management contract with Nutrition Food Group during its monthly meeting Monday night. The fixed-fee $20,000 program is set to take effect July 1 and end June 30, 2020. It was approved 4-1 by the board, with President Michelle Courtad casting the dissenting vote.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Joseph Sherrieb was the overall winner of the annual Mark Gillfillan Memorial 5K held Friday at Riverdale. The 25-year-old Sherrieb finished in 18:29.2 to beat 14-year-old Preston Perkins by 13.4 seconds. Perkins finished in 18:42.6 to win the male 10-14 division.
