The Mohawk Community Library kicked off its Winter Reading Program for Kids on Monday. The theme for this year’s Winter Reading Program is Superheroes, and the kickoff included a special appearance by Batman.

NEW WASHINGTON — Everything changed in only a few seconds. Jenna Karl’s long 3-pointer at the end of the fourth quarter forced overtime, and a Courtney Pifher three-point play off the tip ball to begin overtime turned the tide, and Buckeye Central took over first place in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference with a 55-51 victory against Carey on Tuesday night.

BUCYRUS — A defensive strategy that differed from what they had been using recently, a slightly different starting lineup and more open looks was all it took for the Upper Sandusky girls basketball team to put a losing streak and shooting slump behind them.

CAREY — The Carey Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated 25 years of existence with its 24th annual dinner meeting Monday evening at Moreno’s in downtown Carey. Chamber Executive Director Cassie Carlson organized the festivities, which included a meal catered by Moreno’s, award presentations and the State of the Village address by Carey Mayor Jennifer Rathburn.

The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 2018 class in a banquet at 6 p.m. April 21 at the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds. Inductees this year are Riverdale’s Don Bowman, Upper Sandusky’s Robby Lee, Sycamore’s Wilfred Osborn, Wynford’s Mike Schifer, Mohawk’s Aubrey Walton, Carey’s Beth (Baldridge) Williams and the 2003 Mohawk softball team.

A large turnout was on hand Sunday afternoon for a fundraiser at the home of Irv and Janice Woods in Upper Sandusky. Money was raised for the family of Dan and Nicole Seitz, who lost nearly all their possessions in a fire earlier this month.

MORRAL — A key question for the Upper Sandusky boys basketball team is how they will be able to overcome injuries to two starters over the next couple of weeks. So far, they have nothing to be worried about.

NORTH ROBINSON — The Upper Sandusky boys swim team easily defended its North Central Ohio Swim league championship Saturday, finishing with a 359-245 advantage over second-place Colonel Crawford. The host Eagles repeated as the girls champions, 352-281, over the Rams in the eight-team swimming-only league.
