NORTH ROBINSON —Carey and Mohawk both will be well represented in regionals after a strong finish to the Division V district track and field meet Saturday at Colonel Crawford. The Blue Devils were district champions in five different events, with the Warriors winning two, and both teams adding multiple top-four finishes to qualify for this week’s regionals. Carey’s Tripp Phoenix was the 100-meter dash winner in 11.16 seconds, while Landyn Miller was first in the 800 run in 1:56.81. The Blue Devils boys added a victory in the 400 relay, with Phoenix, Dalen Walter, Mace Puckett and Lucas Smith-Hayward finishing in 43.98. The same team of runners was third in the 800 relay in 1:32.51, and the 1600 relay team of Landyn Miller, Riley Miller, Walter and Smith-Hayward qualified for regionals in fourth place in 3:35.41. On the first day of the meet Thursday, Phoenix was runner-up in the high jump at 6 feet, 4 inches, Puckett threw 147-0 to finish fourth in the discus, and Fisher Montgomery took third in the pole vault at 12-0. Landyn Miller, Riley Miller, Deakon Yeater and Waylon Hertel qualified for the regional meet with a runner-up finish in the 3200 relay in 8:34.66. Mohawk got its only win in that same event, with Phoenix Nally, Myer Kirian, Kolten Wood and Jet Loesser finishing in 8:18.47. Evan Mullholand was fourth in the pole vault at 12-0, and Eli Chevalier threw 149-4 to finish third in the discus. The Warriors added another victory Saturday as Nally, Wood, Mason Schimpf and Jagger Ekleberry finished the 1600 relay in 3:31.42. Their other two relays also qualified for regionals. John Stansbery, Ekleberry, Deegan McLaughlin and Schimpf were third in the 400 relay in 45.23, and Stansbery, Schimpf, Riley Coffman and Ekleberry took fourth place in the 800 relay in 1:32.81. Individually, Stansbery was third in the 100 dash in 11.54, Wood took fourth place in the 800 run in 1:59.22, and Nally finished fourth in the 1600 run in 4:38.15. There were plenty of girls qualifiers as well, led by Carey’s Elysa Holsinger who won both the 100 hurdles (16.53) and the 300 hurdles (46.27). Addison Baldridge was runner-up in the 400 dash in 1:02.78, and Ema Ritter finished third in the 800 run in 2:30.67. Baldridge, Bella Phoenix, Ritter and Holsinger were second in the 800 relay in 1:49.24 and also second in the 1600 relay in 4:15.47. On the first day of the meet, Scarlett Prater advanced to regionals in the discus with a fourth-place throw of 100-2. Other athletes placed but missed the regional cut, including Mohawk’s Emerson Gurney, who was fifth in the 400 dash in 1:04.65. The Warriors were seventh in the 800 relay in 1:59.73 and eighth in the 1600 relay in 4:37.04. The Blue Devils had three other placers Thursday. Mallory Brodman was seventh in the pole vault at 7-6, Phoenix took seventh in the shot put at 32-2, and Lydia Black threw 93-7 to finish eighth in the discus. In boys events, Riley Miller placed sixth in the 1600 run in 4:52.09. Puckett was seventh in the shot put on the first day, throwing 42-2.5, while Brayden Williams was sixth in the discus at 140-8. The Warriors’ Schimpf just missed moving on in the 100 dash, taking fifth in 11.81. Kirian was seventh in the 3200 run in 10:33.12 on Thursday. Carey’s boys finished third in the team standings with 84 points, while Mohawk was fifth with 64 points. Colonel Crawford topped Arlington 105-97 for first place. The Eagles also were the girls champions 122-99 over South Central. The Blue Devils placed fifth with 61 points and the Warriors 15th with seven points.
