Falcons’ Berger wins weight throw state championship

GENEVA — Riverdale junior Brody Berger won the Division IV boys weight throw by over 7 feet in the indoor state track and field meet Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva.

Berger’s mark of 74 feet, 0.5 inches, was well ahead of the rest of the field. Botkins seniors Noah Schuller (66-10.5) and Aidan Egbert (63-1) were second and third, respectively.

Riverdale junior Marissa Bonham notched second in the girls long jump with a leap of 16-11. Only Harvest Prep sophomore Kendyll Dent had a better mark at 17-3.5.

Bonham took third in the girls 400 in 58.73 seconds. Oberlin senior Olivia Hudson was the winner in 57.29, and Tiffin Calvert senior Emily Miller the runner-up in 57.82.

Riverdale junior Kolten Evans secured seventh in the boys 800 run in 2:01.24. St. Henry junior Zach Heath won by 0.09 with a time of 1:56.37.
