Hayman leads Warriors

BUCYRUS — Zach Hayman scored 27 points to lead Mohawk to a 69-57 victory against Bucyrus on Saturday in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball game. Keith Jenkins scored 12 points, Chris Klopp finished with 11 points and six rebounds, and Kaiden Hammer had five points, five rebounds and five assists.

Rams boys 3rd in relays

PORT CLINTON — Upper Sandusky’s boys tied for third and the girls tied for seventh Saturday in the Gipe Relays at Port Clinton. The Rams boys tied Sandusky with 34 points. Fremont Ross won by a big margin, 98-40, over Perrysburg.

Upper Sandusky teams advance to N10 tourney semis

BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky rolled to a 35-14 victory against Colonel Crawford in the quarterfinals of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference seventh grade girls basketball tournament Saturday at Bucyrus. Kaidance Iles led the Rams with 19 points. Lauren Schoenberger scored 6 points, Velourea Stowers had 4 points, Hannah Windau and Kamree Frey had 2 points each and Anna Gerber and Braylei Powell scored 1 point each.

With Mohawk missing two of its best perimeter defenders, stopping Upper Sandusky’s guards was going to be difficult in girls basketball action Friday. Upper Sandusky (14-5, 10-4 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) set the tone early, with Abigail Fogle hitting a 3-pointer just two seconds after the opening tip-off leading to seven-pont and 12-point runs as the Rams went on to defeat Mohawk 71-31.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — In an effort to turn their season around, the Liberty Benton boys basketball team has recently placed an emphasis on defense and defensive pressure. It showed early as the Eagles used a full-court press with a trapping zone and forced 18 first-half turnovers in a 56-36 victory over Riverdale on Friday at Riverdale High School.

ATTICA — A strong defensive effort carried Wynford to a halftime lead, but Seneca East got into an offensive groove in the second half of a 51-40 victory Friday night in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game.

Carey rolls past Ridgedale, 66-35

MORRAL — Carey jumped out to a big first-half lead and cruised to a 66-35 victory against Ridgedale on Friday night in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game. The Blue Devils (18-2, 12-2 N10) led 21-6 after one quarter and 38-14 at halftime. They outscored the Rockets, 28-21, in the second half.

Carey dominates early in 57-31 win

CAREY — Playing their second game in three days, the Carey girls basketball team raced out to a 22-point lead at the half on the way to a 57-31 victory over Colonel Crawford on Thursday at Carey High School. The Blue Devils (17-2, 11-2 N10) led 21-2 at the end of the first quarter, 30-8 at the half and 41-20 at the end of third quarter.
