CAREY — The second that Carey High School senior Cody Luzader stepped on the University of Findlay campus and spoke to the football coaches, he knew it was the right place to continue his academic and athletic career. On Wednesday at Carey High School, Luzader signed his national letter of intent to play football at the University of Findlay next fall.

Riverdale’s Haley Beltz will attend Tiffin University and continue her athletic career by playing soccer for the Dragons. Beltz is a daughter of Tim and Stacey Beltz.

The Upper Sandusky junior high wrestling team defeated Mohawk, 81-11, in a dual Tuesday evening. Gage Ebert (92 pounds) and Braxton Johnson (150) had pins for the Rams.

TIFFIN — The first organizational meeting for all coaches of the Sen-San-Wyan softball league is 7 p.m. March 7 in the Upper Room at the St. Joseph Activity Center on Melmore Street in Tiffin. This instructional league is open to all girls in the surrounding areas and no girl will be denied participation on her home team.

LANCASTER — The 15th annual Ohio Youth Basketball School Team State Championships are Feb. 24-25 in Columbus for boys and girls in third through sixth grade. Three different divisions in each grade are available based on school size.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale is hiring a head girls soccer coach. Interested candidates must meet, or be willing to meet, all of the requirements set forth for coaching by the OHSAA and should send a resume to Craig Taylor at ctaylor@riverdale.k12.oh.us.

TIFFIN — Buckeye Elite travel basketball club will be hosting tryouts at Tiffin Calvert High School. Tryouts for seventh grade boys are 3-4:15 p.m. and for eighth grade girls 4:30-5:45 p.m. Feb. 25.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk High School will host a bake sale to benefit area fire victims from 5-7:30 p.m. Saturday during the boys basketball game against Seneca East. Baked goods may be delivered to the MHS ticket booth from 4-4:30 p.m. Saturday.

UPPER — Despite opening the match with three consecutive losses, the Upper Sandusky wrestling team took advantage of seven Mohawk forfeits and used a late pin by freshman Caleb Payne to overwhelm the Warriors 48-15 on Tuesday at Upper Sandusky High School.

SHELBY — A poor shooting start led not only to a tough time on offense but also on defense. Shelby got in transition off of Upper Sandusky’s early misses to run up a big early lead that it carried to a 48-34 victory in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday night.
