CAREY — Carey has had its share of strong starts against tough opponents. Friday was no different, as the Blue Devils took a 22-7 lead over Ontario at the end of the first quarter, but the Warriors took advantage of short fields, and a stiff front seven limited opportunities for the Blue Devils in the second half of their homecoming game, resulting a 45-30 loss.

Golf sectional suspended by rain

GALION — Mohawk appears to be a lock to advance to district tournament play with a 338 during Division III sectional play that was suspended before all teams finished Thursday at Valley View Golf Course. The Warriors, Wynford and Seneca East, playing in the same group, were the only teams who had all five of their golfers complete their rounds before thunderstorms hit the area. Rounds will be completed Monday.

Tricky goal gives Falcons win

ADA — With the scored tied 0-0 and 10 minutes left in its game against Ada, the Riverdale soccer team delved into its bag of tricks on Thursday night. During a free kick on the left side from about 15 yards away from the Ada net, two Riverdale players approached the ball as if they were going to put a foot on it, before Coby Miller placed a cross pass in front of the net that Josh Hunter was able to head past Ada keeper Ace Gamble for the game’s only goal as Falcons claimed 1-0 North Central Ohio Soccer Association victory.

ARLINGTON — Carey finished second in the Division III sectional golf tournament Thursday at Sycamore Springs Golf Course, advancing to district tournament play for the second straight year. The Blue Devils were runners-up to Van Buren, 316-353, with McComb also reaching district play by taking third with a 362.

League-leading Buckeye Central finishes strong over Upper

Upper Sandusky pushed league-leading Buckeye Central though a set and a half, but after that, the Bucks took over for a 25-15, 25-17, 25-5 victory on Thursday night. The Rams (5-12, 5-6 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) held a small lead midway through the second set but struggled to get anything after that.

Oler has 10 kills in Mohawk win over Bucycrus

YCAMORE — Destini Oler had 10 kills to lead Mohawk to a 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 victory against Bucyrus in Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball Thursday night. Emily Conner added nine kills and a team-high four blocks, and Addie Thiery finished with seven kills and two aces.
