Brunch to help fund SO trip

SYCAMORE — A Wyandot County Special Olympics fundraiser brunch will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sycamore Community Center. Food will be provided for a donation that goes toward a trip to the Special Olympics Unified Bowling Tournament in Las Vegas from Feb. 14-16.

After having success last year in its first venture in the Special Olympics Unified Bowling Tournament, Wyandot County has a chance to go back again this year, and this time with two more pairs. Special Olympics athlete Mike Vogel teamed with his unified partner, his father John, to win a national championship last year in Reno, Nevada, becoming Wyandot County’s first national champions.

Upper holds off Bellevue, 56-50

BELLVUE — Upper Sandusky came up with plays when it had to, and the Rams held off a Bellevue rally effort, 56-50, for a big non-league road victory Tuesday night. The Rams (4-0) led by as many as 14 points early in the fourth quarter before the Redmen (2-1) surged down the stretch, pulling to within 46-43 with 1:31 remaining.

Rams top Tigers, edged by Knights

Upper Sandusky opened its wrestling season by defeating Mansfield Senior, 63-15, and losing, 39-29, against Northmor on Tuesday evening. Ronan Gullifer (113 pounds), Noah Clary (170), Noah Frey (195), Connor Johnston (220) and Shane Pack (285) had the only victories against the Golden Knights and finished 2-0 on the day.

Carey rallies past Crawford

CAREY — Carey held Colonel Crawford to two points in the third quarter of a 45-38 victory to open Northern 10 Athletic Conference play Tuesday night. After the teams were tied at 10 after one quarter, the Eagles took a 21-14 lead into halftime.

Trusty scores 19 in Mohawk loss

NEW WASHINGTON — Chelsey Trusty had 19 points, but it was not nearly enough as Mohawk lost its Northern 10 Athletic Conference opener, 67-34, at Buckeye Central on Tuesday night. Jenna Karl scored 16 points, Isabelle Biglin had 15 points, and Courtney Pifher finished with 13 points for the Bucks (3-0, 1-0 N10).

Devils top Senecas

TIFFIN — Carey took advantage of seven forfeit victories to roll to a 57-15 victory against Calvert in a wrestling dual Tuesday evening in Tiffin. The Blue Devils opened up a 51-0 lead following Will Schafer’s 6-1 win by decision against Austin Jones at 170 pounds.
