Carey wins N10 freshman title

N10 freshman champs featured

CAREY — Led by Anthony Bell’s 41 points, top-seeded Carey beat No. 2 seed Mohawk 74-63 in the championship of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball tournament Saturday at Carey. Also scoring for the Blue Devils (21-1) were Ashton Hill with 15 points, Collin Ferguson with 9 points, Derek Lonsway with 4 points, Cameron Pahl with 2 point, Riley Brooks with 2 points and Easton Korody with 1 point.

Upper tourney a split session

Upper Sandusky plays in a Division III boys basketball sectional final at 8 p.m. Friday at Monroeville. It is a split session. The first game features the winner of New London and Huron against Western Reserve at 6:15 p.m.

Sen-San-Wyan league to meet

TIFFIN — The first organizational meeting for all coaches in the Sen-San-Wyan girls softball league is 7 p.m. March 6 in the Upper Room at St. Joseph Activity Center on Melmore Street in Tiffin. This instructional league is open to all girls in the surrounding areas and no girl will be denied participation on their home team.

Soccer clinic continuing

The Upper Sandusky High School boys soccer coaches and players is holding a winter/spring skills clinic for boys in third through eighth grades from 5-6 p.m. Sundays through March 17 in the high school gym. For more information, email coach Keith Miller at keith_m@usevs.org.

Woods, Dryfuse carry Tornadoes past Rams

MONROEVILLE — On a night when both teams were struggling offensively, Tiffin Columbian’s combination of point guard Kaia Woods and forward Abby Dryfuse gave the Tornadoes just enough. Woods scored 15 points, while Dryfuse had 14 points to lead the Tornadoes to a 40-33 victory against the Rams in a Division II sectional final Saturday evening at Monroeville.

Hopewell-Loudon defense shuts down Carey

FREMONT — Carey was not about to let All-Ohio 6-foot-3 sophomore Makayla Elmore beat them Saturday night. Instead, Olivia Zender and Hopewell-Loudon’s defense did in a 45-21 Chieftains victory in a Division IV sectional final at Fremont Ross. The Blue Devils held Elmore to 2 points in the first half, but Zender finished with four 3-pointers and 17 points on the night while Carey made just 4 of 22 shots in the first three quarters, not reaching double digits until a putback at the third-quarter buzzer.
