Upper boys tennis tops Clear Fork

Levi Malone suffered his first loss but his teammates made up for it in a 4-1 boys tennis victory for Upper Sandusky against Clear Fork on Wednesday at Upper Sandusky. Malone dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Noah Brown in the No. 1 singles match against the Colts (2-3).

Riverdale girls win quad

FINDLAY — Riverdale’s girls were first in a Blanchard Valley Conference quad meet on Monday, scoring 89 points to defeat Leipsic (70.5), Arlington (55.5) and Liberty-Benton (40) at Liberty-Benton. The Eagles boys won over the Red Devils 93.5-63.5, with the Falcons edging the Vikings 50-49 for third.

Rams split with Chieftains

Upper Sandusky and Hopewell-Loudon split in a pair of one-run games Saturday in nonconference baseball action, with the Chieftains winning the opener 8-7 in nine innings and the Rams taking the second game 7-6. Hopewell-Loudon scored four times in the top of the seventh to tie the game at six before Upper Sandusky won it in the bottom of the seventh on a Diago Cazares RBI. He finished with three hits and two runs in that game.

Hopewell-Loudon rallied in the opener for a 7-6 win in eight innings but Upper Sandusky took an 8-2 victory in the second game of a softball double header Saturday at Upper Sandusky. The Rams (5-5) led 5-1 after four innings in the opener, but the Chieftains scored twice in the fifth inning and then three times to take the lead in the seventh inning.

Niederkohr, Mullholand help Carey split games

CAREY — Hailey Niederkohr had six hits, and Bridget Mullholand finished the day with four as Carey split a softball double header with Lucas, falling 3-2 in eight innings and then run ruling the Cubs 12-2 in five innings in the second game Saturday at Waterworks Park.

Warriors walk off in 2nd game for sweep

SYCAMORE — Mohawk hit three home runs on the day but used some small ball to finish off a nonconference softball sweep of South Central on Saturday. After winning 12-2 in the opener, the Warriors bunted for a pair of hits and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, walking off 11-10 winners in the second game.

Both Upper track teams win Kenton Relays

KENTON — Upper Sandusky’s girls and boys both won the championships in the Kenton Relays on Friday night at Kenton. The Rams girls won by a fairly wide margin, 102-80, over Kenton, with Riverdale and Bellefontaine both finishing just out of second place with 76 points.

Royals’ Messmer fires 1-hit shutout

BUCYRUS — The Wynford softball team had its best performance of the year, shutting out Ridgedale 10-0 in five innings in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Friday at Wynford. Hannah Messmer (2-3) threw a one-hit shutout, striking out nine in five innings.
