WALDO — The heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association honored Dennis Jesse, corporate sponsor and guest speaker, junior members and volunteers at the 33rd Year-End Awards Banquet held Thursday at Kings Mill. Jesse, in his youth, worked under Professional Ross Carley at the Marion Country Club. He graduated from Marion Pleasant High School and Ohio State University in business marketing and later began his own company, Jesse Marketing Associates LLC, in Sarasota, Florida.

Looking to promote physical fitness, raise money for the Kiwanis Closet project and give locals a chance to exercise and have fun, the Kiwanis Club of Upper Sandusky hosted its fourth annual 5K/3K/Fun run on Friday at the Upper Sandusky Reservoir.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Britton Devier initially aspired to be a dentist. But a setback he suffered his senior year at Ada High School, coupled with advice and inspiration from his father, a former teacher, professor and the current college president at Glen Oaks Community College, persuaded him to pursue a career in education and coaching.

SYLVANIA — Upper Sandusky’s Brett Montgomery finished in a tie for 36th place with an overall score of 227 (11 over par) at the American Junior Golf Association’s Dana Incorporated Junior Open from July 22-25 at Sylvania Country Club. Montgomery shot a 75 in the first round, a 79 in the second round and a 73 in the third round. He was tied with Jack Wertz of Cincinnati.

To teach children about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and have fun in the process, the Wyandot Memorial Health SportsCare program hosted the Mighty Ram Camp on Wednesday at the Upper Sandusky High School Athletic Complex and practice football field.

BUCYRUS — It wasn’t easy for Brent Konkle to bid farewell to the only school district he attended and worked for. Konkle graduated from Mohawk High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Years later, he taught in the Mohawk Local School District for 22 years and served as an assistant junior high athletic director for five years.

The second annual Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame Golf Outing in memory of Robby Lee is set to take place at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at Bob’s Countryside Golf Course located at 4204 Ohio 199 in Carey. The rain date is Aug. 18. The Robby Lee Memorial Golf Outing will be a 14-team, four-person scramble tournament.

The Upper Sandusky Middle School will hold volleyball tryouts for seventh grade on from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 1-2 and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 3. Eighth grade tryouts will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 1-2 and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 3. Athletes need to have a completed sports physical and final forms completed in order to try out.

The Riverdale Community Lions Golf Scramble was held Saturday at Lincoln Hills Golf Course in Upper Sandusky. This year, 15 teams and 60 golfers played in extreme heat conditions, split cash prizes and won individual contests.
