Falcons top Knights in BVC opener

VAN BUREN — Sydney Holderman had 27 points to lead Riverdale’s girls basketball team to a 72-45 victory at Van Buren to open Blanchard Valley Conference play Thursday night. Holderman knocked down 11 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers, and hit three free throws.

NW indoor track meet to be held

FINDLAY — The Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches will host the Northwest Ohio District Indoor Track and Field Invitational on Jan. 20 at the University of Findlay’s Malcolm Athletic Center inside the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.

Riverdale rolls past Hardin Northern for 1st win of season

DOLA — Riverdale’s fastbreak attack was in full force on Tuesday night as the Falcons converted Hardin Northern turnovers into points, eventually pulling away for the 69-34 victory. Sydney Holderman got Riverdale (1-1) on the board first when she drained a 3-pointer with just under a minute off the clock to put her team up 3-0.

Efficient Rams defeat Flashes

WILLARD — Putting pressure on Upper Sandusky and forcing it to run played right in to the Rams’ hands Tuesday night. Upper Sandusky had great success breaking Willard’s full-court press, running out to a 19-point halftime lead and taking a 58-44 victory on the road to improve to 3-0.

L-B’s big 3rd quarter sinks Carey

CAREY — The Carey girls basketball team played without Sydney Wentling at point guard Monday for the first time in 100 games. The Blue Devils turned the ball over 17 times in a 66-49 loss at Liberty-Benton.

Old Fort tops Mohawk in opener

SYCAMORE — Chelsey Trusty and Aubrey Margraf had 10 points each, but Mohawk fell, 62-30, in its season opener to Old Fort on Tuesday night. Allison Adelsperger paced the Stockaders (1-0) with 23 points, while Peyton Miller had 13 points.
