Montgomery misses districts by 1 stroke

HURON — Upper Sandusky freshman Brett Montgomery came up one stroke shy of qualifying for districts during Division II sectional action Monday at Sawmill Creek Golf and Racquet. Montgomery shot a 39 on the front nine, followed by a 44 on the back nine, for an 83 that ranked tied for ninth overall.

Margraf’s 77 holds for co-medalist honors

GALION — Chet Margraf’s 77 he shot Thursday in the Division III sectional golf tournament held to earn co-medalist honors as play concluded Monday after being suspended the first day at Valley View Golf Course. Margraf’s tied New London’s Brock Rankine for the top score, but the Wildcats wound up passing the Warriors for the sectional championship 330-338.

Devils dismantle Rockets

CAREY – Carey had no trouble defeating Ridgedale, 25-14, 25-11, 25-7, in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball match Monday night. Sydney Kin pummeled the Rockets (2-16, 0-12 N10) with 20 kills on 24-of-25 hitting and went 13-of-13 serving with three aces.

Liberty-Benton flies past Upper

Upper Sandusky allowed two second-half goals as the Rams fell to No. 9 Liberty-Benton 3-1 in a mud-covered North Central Ohio Soccer Association match Saturday morning. Katelyn Hildebrand scored for Upper Sandusky (9-3-1, 2-3-1 NCOSA) when crashing into the goal box after Sierra Carey’s direct free kick hit off the crossbar, tying the match 1-1 late in the first half.

Edison ties Riverdale on last-second goal

MOUNT BLANCHARD — James Hill scored with three seconds left to give Edison a 2-2 draw against Riverdale in a boys soccer match Saturday. The Falcons had gone ahead 2-1 only 1:42 earlier on Coby Miller’s second penalty kick goal.

Martins lead Tigers past Rams

Giving up the big play, specifically to players with the last name Martin, led to the downfall of Upper Sandusky in a muddy game against Seneca East on Friday night. The Rams gave up 159 yards to the Tigers on four touchdown plays in the second quarter on Seneca East’s way to a 40-14 victory.

Defense delivers homecoming win

BUCYRUS — For all but a few plays, Mohawk’s defense limited the running yards of Wynford quarterback Zach Hoffman. But the senior who entered the week as the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s second-leading rusher broke free for a pair of long runs, and the Wynford defense did the rest in a 24-6 homecoming victory Friday night.
