Carey hires Mershman

CAREY — Carey High School announced Wednesday that former assistant coach Jonathon Mershman will be its next head football coach. It will be the first head coaching job for Mershman, who replaces his mentor, Todd Worst, who resigned last month.

TIFFIN — Mohawk outscored Tiffin Calvert 30-12 in the middle quarters of a 41-34 win in a non-league girls basketball game Thursday. Chelsey Trusty led all scorers with 20 points.

Rams boys, girls both win in Marion

MARION — Upper Sandusky’s boys and girls came away winners in an eight-team swim meet Wednesday evening at the Marion YMCA. The Rams boys scored 241 points to blow away the competition, with Northridge finishing second with 93 points.

CHS hires coach

CAREY — Carey High School announced Wednesday that former assistant coach Jonathon Mershman will be its next head football coach. Mershman replaces Todd Worst, who went 80-36 over 11 years as the head coach of the Blue Devils. The DC-U will have more on the hire Friday.

Eagles can’t slow Rams enough

NORTH ROBINSON — With Colonel Crawford slowing the pace Tuesday night, Upper Sandusky had to make the most of every possession it got. The Rams did that in the third quarter, scoring 17 points in nine trips down the floor to get separation and eventually take a 29-19 victory to stay undefeated halfway through Northern 10 Athletic Conference play.

Kin’s 27 points lead Devils past Tigers

CAREY — Sydney Kin had 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead Carey to a 56-43 victory against Seneca East in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game Tuesday night. Bry Curlis added 10 points, while Destiny DeFeo had only three points but tallied seven assists and four steals for the Blue Devils (8-3, 6-2 N10).
