MORRAL — Upper Sandusky really did not expect to face a zone defense Saturday night against Ridgedale, but after making a few adjustments, it fared just fine.

NEW WASHINGTON — After a good start, it appeared Upper Sandusky was on its way to defeating talented league foe Buckeye Central by double digits for the fifth straight time. Then the Bucks made a run.

CAREY — Carey finally got off to a good start, and the rest of the game played out nicely. The Blue Devils sprinted out to a 29-14 first-quarter lead Saturday against Mohawk and built on that advantage. They won, 73-44, to improve to 2-1 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference play.

CAREY — Carey’s two leading scorers both got into foul trouble in the first half, but it was no problem Saturday. The Blue Devils had five different players score either nine or 10 points, and they rolled to a 59-20 victory against Wynford in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk was second and Carey third Saturday in the first Mohawk Invitational wrestling tournament. Gibsonburg went 3-0 to take first place, with the Warriors finishing 2-1 and the Blue Devils 1-2. Northwood was winless. Two teams did not compete because of road conditions.

BUCYRUS — Mohawk held Bucyrus to 21.1 percent shooting to earn its first win of the season, 37-32, on the road Saturday afternoon.

FREMONT — Upper Sandusky’s boys took third and the girls fourth Saturday in the 15-team Fremont St. Joseph Streak Invitational at Fremont Ross High School. Norwalk topped Tiffin Columbian, 381-343, for first place in the girls competition, with Sandusky St. Mary just ahead of Upper Sandusky, 311-303.

NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford turned a close game into a runaway in the second half, defeating Wynford, 65-44, in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball game Saturday night.

Upper Sandusky’s night began in unusual fashion, but the Rams found their groove early and outscrapped county rival Carey late to clinch a 61-48 victory at home in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference basketball game Friday.

BUCYRUS — The pressure the Wynford defense put on the Ridgedale Rockets was heavy enough to break the barometers in the Wynford High School science labs Friday night.
