HEBRON — Keely Wentz was on pace for a second straight All-Ohio finish, but that pace was a bit too fast. Wentz was 45th in the Division III girls race in 19:42.4 in the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Hebron’s National Trail Raceway.

HEBRON — Madelyn Shasteen battled with a cold the week of her state debut. In the end, the cold got the best of her.

BUCYRUS — Wynford won’t be one and done this year. The second-seeded Royals won a first-round OHSAA playoff matchup against No. 7 Gibsonburg, 22-6, at home Friday to advance to the Division VI, Region 22 semifinals next weekend. They play No. 3 Ayersville, which defeated Seneca East 49-0.

BUCYRUS — Gibsonburg knew it had to go all out to stop Zach Hoffman on the ground. The problem was by doing so, it opened things up for Wynford to have a huge passing night, especially in the first half of a 22-6 Royals victory Friday night.

CAREY — Keely Wentz hopes her second trip to the state cross country meet goes as well as her first one did. In fact, she’s planning on having it go exactly the same way.

CAREY — When Carey cross country coaches Dean and Nancy Kessler started with the program, Dean used to field questions about attending the state cross country meet. And he used to answer them all the same way.

Riverdale and Upper Sandusky both placed two players on the girls All-North Central Ohio Soccer Association first team released today. Riverdale junior forward Gabi Rodriguez and junior midfielder Reygan Frey and Upper Sandusky senior midfielders Sierra Carey and Grace Miller received the honor.

Riverdale senior defenders Kyle Evans and Josh Hunter and Upper Sandusky senior midfielder Cameron Brady were named to the boys All-North Central Ohio Soccer Association first team. Evans and Hunter helped the Falcons give up just 1.78 goals per match with three shutouts on the season.

Madelyn Shasteen is taking an easy approach to physical work while she battles a head cold ahead of her first state cross country meet. But the mental preparation is in full gear.

BUCYRUS — Wynford has played this entire season without forgetting about what happened in the 11th week of last football season.
