Mohawk’s Theis and Brown, Wynford’s Helbert take top All-N10 football honors

Mohawk’s Nick Theis and Parker Brown earned top player honors, and Wynford’s Gabe Helbert was coach of the year on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference football team released Sunday. Theis, a senior defensive tackle, was named the defensive player of the year. He was among the league leaders in tackles for loss with 22 and sacks with 7.5. His 78 tackles were second on the team, and he forced and recovered a fumble.

Frey, Rodriguez named to 1st team

Riverdale’s Reygan Frey and Gabi Rodriguez both earned All-Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association girls Division III first-team honors. Frey, a senior forward, led the Falcons in scoring with 23 goals and added eight assists to finish with 54 points.

Tri-Deanery runner-up

Falcons’ Miller earns 2nd-team honors

Riverdale’s Coby Miller was a second-team honoree in Division III to lead area selections to the boys All-Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association team. Miller, a sophomore forward, led the Falcons in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points.

Blue Devils hope to maintain momentum

CAREY — Carey football coach Jonathon Mershman wasn’t sure what to expect heading into this season, but coming off of a historic win in the first-round playoff game, the first-year coach is hopeful the Blue Devils can make a deep run in the postseason.

Smith signs to play softball at NOSU

CAREY — It’s been quite a career for Carey High School senior Felicite Smith and it isn’t over yet. On Wednesday at Carey High School, Smith, surrounded by family members and coaches, signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Division II Northwest Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.
