REYNOLDSBURG — A strong coalition consisting of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio State University and several state agricultural organizations are encouraging farmers to attend training courses for the Agricultural Fertilizer Applicator Certification Program.

The Wyandot County Farm Service Agency is accepting resumes from anyone interested in the position of county committee adviser. FSA County Committee Advisers are a valued voice for under-represented groups and socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers.

FINDLAY — Sportsmen and women interested in pursuing coyotes are invited to attend a free informational workshop provided by Ohio Department of Natural Resources on Jan. 31 in Findlay. Wildlife experts will cover basic topics, such as life history, calling techniques including call types and setups, appropriate firearms and ammunition, trapping sets, scouting and the laws associated with pursuing coyotes.

KENTON — A tractor safety and machinery operation certification course for youth has been scheduled for Wednesday evenings from Feb. 1 through March 8 through the Ohio State University Extension. The six sessions will be from 6-9 p.m. in the OSU Extension office Spark Lab, 1021 W. Lima. St., Kenton.

Evolution Ag in Plain City has announced that it will be holding its annual open house and customer appreciation event Feb. 22 and producers will have the opportunity to be recertified for pesticide application as well as being able to complete the new course required of all producers to be able to apply nutrients.

SANDUSKY — Travis Hartman recently was selected as the Lake Erie fish management program administrator, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Hartman has worked as a fisheries biologist for the ODNR Division of Wildlife’s Sandusky Fish Research Unit since 2003.

COLUMBUS — The 25th Annual Expo-Ohio Farm Toy and NASCAR Collectibles Show is set for Jan. 27 and 28 at the Ohio building at the Ohio Expo Center. The show at the Ohio State Fairgrounds next to Power Show Ohio 2017 will feature new and old farm toys, collectibles and shelf models, trucks, banks, signs, clothing, parts, construction equipment, pedal tractors and other farm related items.

The Upper Sandusky High School competition cheerleading team recently won Division A, made up of schools from Divisions I, II and III, to make them state champions at the Ohio Athletic Committee State Championships. The Rams also received the high point award.

Chanda Neely returned to The Daily Chief-Union on Monday after more than three years. Neely climbed back into her former role as city editor, replacing long-time DC-U staffer Alissa Paolella, who left the paper Friday to take a communications position with Marion-based United Church Homes, the parent company of Fairhaven Community.

The director of respiratory and neurology at Wyandot Memorial Hospital introduced a new lung cancer screening program during the first in a series of New Year, New You events hosted by the Wellness Center. Speakers included Beth Riedlinger, respiratory therapist; Fortune Bormuth, exercise physiologist; Shannon Erskine, dietician; and Mary Anne Tucker, pharmacist.
