NEW RIEGEL — A Carey man was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on CR 591 west of New Riegel on Wednesday morning. Christopher Jacoby, 42, was traveling west and drove left of center and struck an oncoming commercial vehicle driven by David Lucius of Tiffin.

SYCAMORE — Sycamore Village Council on Monday voted to spend $78,900 to replace outdated protective gear for firefighters. “These are the ladies and gentlemen who go to our homes to put out fires and their gear is outdated,” Sycamore Council President Tony Flood said. “We are putting our firefighters in harms way by not having the proper gear and it’s good news that we have the money to do it.”

NEVADA — Bruce Samples, the owner of Nevada Country Market, is retiring after 48 years in the meat industry. The market is closing Friday. “The place is still for sale,” Samples said. Samples has owned the market on Nevada’s Main Street for the last eight years.
