ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Applications from soybean farmers are being accepted through Thursday for Conservation Legacy Awards, a program of the American Soybean Association. Winners will get a trip to the 2017 Commodity Classic in San Antonio, Texas.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for the public’s help in creating new habitats for monarch butterflies by collecting milkweed seed pods from plants established between Sept. 1 and Oct. 30 and dropping them off at collection sites across the state.

Two current supervisors for the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District have been re-elected to another three-year term. Larry Passet and Jeff Fox were re-elected Thursday night at the annual meeting of the SWCD. They were two of three candidates seeking election.

Rick and Kim Daniel are the Wyandot Soil and Conservation District’s 2016 Cooperators of the Year.

Three candidates will seek two seats on the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors with terms beginning Jan. 1. An election will take place in conjunction with the annual banquet Thursday in the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds.

KENTON — The Ohio No-Till Summer Field Day is slated for Aug. 31 at the Jon Layman farm, located at 15238 Township Road 119, Kenton. The Ohio State University Extension and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center are the outreach and research arms of the Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and will host the event.

The Wyandot County Farm Bureau will host its annual meeting at noon Sunday at John Stewart United Methodist, 130 W. Johnson St., Upper Sandusky. A buffet lunch catered by Special Occasions will begin at 12:30 p.m.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District will have a special election to elect two supervisors to the Crawford SWCD Board of Supervisors for three-year terms commencing Jan. 1. The terms of Nathan Brause and Tom Miller terms expire Dec. 31.

COLUMBUS — Ohio hunters are invited to enjoy early waterfowl seasons for Canada goose and teal that begin Sept. 3, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Hunters are reminded to check regulations for changes to rules, season dates and bag limits as the 2016 fall seasons begin.

A 17-year-old high school senior from Wyandot County won the county’s first grand champion title for market barrows at this year’s Ohio State Fair, which ran July 27 to Aug. 7. It was a title many years in the making. Ashton Frey’s father, Nathan Frey, tears up with pride when he talks about his son’s state fair win.
