Henry Bils, Jeff Dilley and Connie Iles have been nominated in Local Administrative Area No. 3 in Wyandot County to serve as a committee member for the Farm Service Agency. One person will be elected to serve a three-year term.

WASHINGTON — As farmers begin the fall harvest, the National Farmers Union joined in the effort to promote safe practices on and around the farm during National Farm Safety and Health Week. President Barack Obama designated farm safety week to reaffirm support for programs and practices that promote health and safety on America’s farms.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District recently held its annual meeting combined with the Crawford County Farm Bureau. Nathan Brause and Zach Stuckey were elected to the Crawford SWCD board of supervisors for three years with terms beginning Jan. 1.

REYNOLDSBURG — The Ohio Department of Agriculture recently recognized five families representing each region of the state as winners of the 2016 conservation farm family awards at the Farm Science Review in London. This was the 33rd year of the awards program.

COLUMBUS — The 2016 Scenic Ohio awards will go to groups and organizations that are working to preserve Ohio’s World Heritage-nominated sites. Built by ancient American Indians, Ohio’s earthworks are a wonder of the ancient world, according to a press release about the awards program.

FINDLAY — The road on Magee Marsh Wildlife Area running from the Sportsmen’s Migratory Bird Center to the beach area, including the boardwalk and beach trails, will be closed in order to provide a quality hunting experience for Ohio’s sportsmen and women.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association recently announced its new Begin Farming program, which will provide aspiring and new farmers in Ohio support to understand what it takes to get into farming and grow their businesses.

ST. LOUIS — The American Soybean Association is planning to give a scholarship to a high school senior interested in pursuing agriculture. The soy scholarship is a $5,000, one-time award presented to a high school senior who plans to pursue agriculture as an area of study at any accredited college or university in the 2017-18 academic year.
