AMES, Iowa — National Farmers Organization members voted in favor of agricultural policy positions at the organization’s 2017 Convention in Springfield, Missouri, on Jan. 26. From funding for crop insurance and grain loan rates to organic grain import issues, dairy supply management and the renewable fuel standards, members voted in favor of the various policy positions.

The Farm Service Agency reminds producers who are interested in the 2017 Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, of the need to apply for coverage by the following crop deadline dates. March 15 is the deadline for 2017 NAP coverage on forage sorghum, oats, potatoes, soybeans, sunflowers and all spring-planted specialty crops grown for food.

If a landowner plans to sell farmland that's enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program, the Wyandot County Farm Service Agency office would like to remind landowners about the terms and conditions of their contracts. Also, if the ownership changes from an individual to a trust or a limited liability company, please inform the office.

INDIANAPOLIS — Students from FFA chapters across Ohio recently attended the 212-degrees and 360-degrees Leadership Conferences. The conferences are activities of the National FFA Organization made possible by title sponsor Syngenta.

The Wyandot County FFA Chapters, including Carey, Mohawk, Riverdale and Upper Sandusky, currently are selling fresh strawberries. The proceeds from the sale will be used to conduct and support Wyandot County FFA activities.

FINDLAY — A special drawing will be held Saturday, March 18, at the Lake La Su An Wildlife Area headquarters for youth interested in turkey hunting, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Youth ages 17 and younger may participate.

REYNOLDSBURG — Forty-five individuals or organizations recently were recognized at the 92nd Ohio Fair Managers Association annual convention at the Greater Columbus Convention Center for outstanding service to their local fairs.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — During the final week of August and the first few weeks of September, county fair goers flock to the fairgrounds in Findlay, Kenton and Upper Sandusky for the Hancock, Hardin and Wyandot county fairs, which fall on consecutive weeks. The fairs are home to a wide variety of livestock shows for members of 4-H and FFA organizations and open shows for adults.

KENTON — Hardin County Ohio State University Extension will host a corn production issues seminar from Ohio State University Extension’s Agronomic Crops Team tonight at 7 p.m. The location of the seminar will be the community room at Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative, 1210 Lima St., Kenton.

COLUMBUS — The leadership and advocacy development program, AgriPOWER, is now accepting applications for participation. The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s AgriPOWER Class IX will include 20 individuals who are committed to improving their understanding of important issues and are willing to develop skills to become effective advocates for the farm and food community.
