The Agricultural Act of 2014 provides for payments for covered commodities through the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) program when the market year average price is below the reference price.

Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a workshop series that will highlight a few unique operations around Crawford County in the conservation and ag fields. The public is invited to attend one or both of the workshops in the Neighbor to Neighbor Conservation Series.

Farm Service Agency county committees are a critical component of the day-to-day operations of the FSA and allow grassroots input and local administration of federal farm programs. Farmers and ranchers who are elected to serve on FSA county committees apply their judgment and knowledge to help with the decisions necessary to administer FSA programs in their counties, ensuring the needs of local producers are met.

COLUMBUS — The first confirmed case of epizootic hemorrhagic disease recently was confirmed in both white-tailed deer and cattle in Ohio. The virus was diagnosed by the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.

COLUMBUS — Farm Bureau members throughout Ohio can get free nitrate testing of their well water. Each county Farm Bureau will receive 25 testing kits from the Ohio Farm Bureau.

FINDLAY — Anglers soon can enjoy increased fishing opportunities at Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area, where catchable catfish will be stocked, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Today, two ponds will receive catchable channel catfish from the state’s hatchery system.

The 69th annual banquet and supervisor election for the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District was held Thursday with 140 people in attendance. Brian Frisch was re-elected to the board of supervisors and Brad Weaver was elected to his first term, which begins Jan. 1.

BUCYRUS — The Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission will cause an election of Supervisors of the Soil and Water Conservation District to be held in accordance with Chapter 940 of the Ohio Revised Code.

FOREST — Precision Ag Field Day is Aug. 23 at Kellogg Farms, 17392 TR 50 near Forest. Aaron Heilers, project manager for Blanchard River Demonstration Farms will give an overview of the water quality and nutrient management goals of the three farms in Hardin and Hancock counties.

Producers enrolled in Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) or Price Loss Coverage (PLC) must protect all cropland and noncropland acres on the farm from wind and water erosion and noxious weeds. Producers who sign ARC county or individual contracts and PLC contracts agree to effectively control noxious weeds on the farm according to sound agricultural practices.
