The Upper Sandusky FFA recently attended the 90th National FFA Convention to listen to motivational speakers, learn about agriculture on educational tours, celebrate with the American Degree recipients and to cheer on fellow member Hannah Ziegler during the National Job Interview contest.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In celebration of 50 years in the Hereford business, Upper Sandusky’s David Smith, was among those honored as Golden Breeders on Oct. 27.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a forestry management workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 18 at the Jim and Janet Pry woodlot.

Wade Vaughn and Gary Walter have been nominated in Local Administrative Area 2 in Wyandot County to serve as a committee member. LAA 2 consists of Crane, Eden, Richland and Salem townships. Ballots were mailed Monday and must be returned to the Wyandot County FSA Office by Dec. 4.

The United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency announced that over $9.6 billion in payments will be made to producers through the Agriculture Risk Coverage, Price Loss Coverage and Conservation Reserve programs.

The Upper Sandusky High School agricultural team placed third in the state and the urban team took sixth in soil judging competition held recently. Competition was held at the county level, district level and state level.

The Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a forestry clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the county woodlot next to Angeline School. This clinic will include presentations on timber stand improvements, best management practices for woodlots, invasive species control and harvest contract do’s and don’ts.

The Wyandot County 4-H Endowment Committee will host Ensure the Legacy Auction and Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds, 10171 Ohio 53, Upper Sandusky. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Wyandot County producers are reminded that the acreage reporting deadline for perennial forage crop (examples are grass hay, alfalfa, clover or pasture) is Nov. 15 for crop year 2018 and subsequent years. Also, producers are reminded that the acreage reporting date for fall seeded crops is Dec. 15.

Wyandot County is sending not one, but two representatives to compete at the national FFA convention this week in Indianapolis. Carley Coppler of Carey won the state in prepared public speaking while Hannah Ziegler of Upper Sandusky won the Ohio job interview. Both are leaving today after school to Indianapolis.
