Decades of developmental research have shown that poverty and high levels of stress in parents disrupt child development. Other challenges in a mother-child relationship include depression, trauma and addiction.

CAREY — The Dorcas Carey Public Library will host a number of special events in addition to its regular activities throughout the month of May.

The 18th Wyandot County family fun fair was held on Saturday. About 200 children and their parents attended the event at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church.

CRESTLINE — Crawford Park District naturalist Josh Dyer will host a program to investigate dandelions at 6 p.m. May 4 at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 Ohio 598.

The Catholic Ladies of Columbia recently held its April meeting. President Barb Grasz called the meeting to order with 37 members present.

A large group of eighth-graders who have been selected as Royal Leaders at Wynford Local Schools gathers in the media center for a picture including winners from the 2015-16 academic year. About every two weeks, Royal Leaders are selected for displaying one of the habits from “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” a popular book by Stephen Covey.

The American Red Cross will host blood drives in Carey and Sycamore in early May. There will be a drive from noon to 6 p.m. May 9 at Parkview Assembly of God Church, 777 W. Findlay St., Carey.

ASHLAND — Tristan Reichelderfer, a 2015 graduate of Kenton High School, is a member of the pre-health professional club at Ashland University. Reichelderfer is majoring in biology.

TIFFIN — The Sisters of St. Marys will offer “Tools for Coping with Chronic Illness and Pain” from 10-11 a.m. May 7 at the St. Francis Spirituality Center, 2000 St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin. Doors open at 9:30 a.m.
