Steps to help a person who is feeling suicidal

The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties works to increase awareness of issues related to suicide. One important way the coalition aims to bring awareness is to educate the community on three steps to help someone in a mental health crisis.

AAA: Large volume of Memorial Day travel

COLUMBUS — AAA expects the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record, with more than 38 million Americans, including nearly 1.49 million Ohioans, traveling at least 50 miles from home between Thursday, May 26 and Monday, May 30, an increase of 1.9 percent nationwide and 1.8 percent in Ohio.

Meeting minutes: May 21, 2016

CAREY — Officers recently hosted the May Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council No. 86 meeting with assistance from Sue Hoepf, Vicki Smith, Andrea Gadomski and Deb Rall. The meeting began with Mass at the original church in Carey conducted by the Rev. Bryan Hajovsky, followed by food and fellowship in the basement of the pilgrimage house.

Latta, state officials to host opioid forum

WASHINGTON — Congressman Bob Latta of Ohio’s 5th District will host a forum addressing the opioid epidemic in Ohio on June 27 at the University of Findlay. Latta will be joined by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Ohio Department of Health Director Richard Hodges and Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Director Tracy Plouck.

Medical grants available

COLUMBUS — The UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation is seeking grant applications from Ohio families in need of financial assistance to help pay for their child’s health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered, by their commercial health insurance plan.
