VFW essay contest entries due Oct. 31

CAREY — Commanders Dan Monday and Rodger Brodman of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 3759 and 2842 announce the kick-off of this year’s VFW’s Voice of Democracy Scholarship competition. Local high school students have the opportunity to compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and a trip to Washington D.C.

USMS to waive admission fee in exchange for Harvey donations

Upper Sandusky Middle School will waive the admission fee to today’s volleyball games against Mohawk School for all attendees who bring items to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Accepted items include safety glasses, work gloves, flashlights, batteries (any size), cleaning supplies, packs of diapers, baby wipes, baby food, soap, deodorant, can openers and eating utensils.

Health department warns of phone call scam seeking personal information

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is warning of a phone scam where callers posing as health department staff are asking for personal information that the department would never seek over the phone. Callers use caller ID spoofing technology to make it appear that they are calling from a credible phone number, including from ODH and at least one Ohio local health department.
