Shrine to host special Mass for victims of cancer May 3

CAREY — The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, in Carey, will be celebrating a special mass in honor of St. Peregrine, patron saint of those affected by cancer, at 7 p.m. May 3 in the Basilica. Anyone who is suffering from cancer, in remission from cancer, a cancer survivor and their loved ones and caregivers are especially invited to participate.

Master Gardener plant sale May 11

KENTON – The 16th Annual Hardin County Master Gardener Plant Sale begins at 9 a.m. May 11, rain or shine, at the Friendship Gardens of Hardin County, which is a new location. The Friendship Gardens of Hardin County is located behind the HARCO Workshop Building, 960 W. Kohler St., Kenton. Parking is available at the garden.

Cinco de Mayo fundraiser to support Open Door May 4

The Community Christian Center and Open Door Resource Center present the second annual Cinco de Mayo Mexican buffet fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. May 4 at Open Door. Freshly prepared Mexican food available includes beef and chicken enchiladas, cheese qusadillas, a taco bar, taco salad, refried beans, Mexican rice, chips and salsa and Patti Spiegel’s “legendary” fried ice cream along with other desserts and drinks.

Meeting minutes: April 27, 2019

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk Area Women’s Literary Club met April 1 at the Mohawk Community Library. President Elaine Kern opened the meeting with the poem “Washington” by Nancy Byrd Turner. Fourteen members answered roll call by responding to the question “Can anyone keep their private life in today’s world?” The club creed was read, followed by the club song.
