McCutchenville native serving at east coast cornerstone of the U.S. Navy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A 2008 Mohawk High School graduate and McCutchenville native is serving at Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Petty Officer 2nd Class Bonnie Lucero serves as an operations specialist, responsible for a team of sailors who specialize in different warfare areas to complete the mission. Operations specialists use a variety of systems to help ships and aircraft plan and execute missions.

Free turtle trapping workshop is July 31

FINDLAY — Anyone interested in learning how to trap turtles is encouraged to attend a free informational workshop on July 31 according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. The workshop will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Conservation Club located at 12055 W. Toussaint North Road, Oak Harbor. Experienced professionals from the Division of Wildlife and Oak Harbor Conservation Club will cover topics including net making, setting and pulling nets, and baits. Season dates, regulations and turtle cleaning and cooking also will be covered.

Kent State University students cited for academic achievement A total of 8,152 Kent State University full-time students were named to the Dean’s List for superior academic achievement during the 2019 Spring semester. Of the full-time students named to the Dean’s List, 1,086 were also named to the President’s List, in recognition of an extremely high level of academic achievement.

Wyandot County CASA seeking volunteers

Those looking to give back to the community may consider becoming a court appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer. Children in foster care who have a CASA volunteer are more likely to succeed in school, adjust better to change and they are half as likely to re-enter the foster care system later.

Seven community members recently completed the six week Cooking Matters program held recently at Angeline Industries. As part of the No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger in America, Cooking Matters teaches participants to shop smarter, use nutrition information to make healthier choices and cook delicious, affordable meals. Founded in 1993, Cooking Matters and thousands of volunteer instructors have helped more than 265,000 families in communities across the country learn how to eat better for less.
