The HHWP Community Action Commission will help income-eligible Ohioans stay cool during the hot summer months. The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program began July 1 and will run until Aug. 31, 2019. The Summer Crisis Program provides assistance to low-income households with an elderly member (60 years or older), or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member's health. In 2018, HHWP assisted 439 households in Hancock, Hardin, Wyandot, and Putnam Counties with utility bill assistance via the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program. Additionally, 179 air conditioners, 269 fans, and 2 AC repairs for low-income seniors and individuals with health conditions that required cooling were provided.

GALION — The Friends of The Big Four Depot is sponsoring its first Train Show and Swap Meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 at the St. Joseph Activity Center, 115 N. Liberty St., Galion. The show will feature all gauge types with Railaoma, models, models supplies, scenery boods, moves and items that will help in the railroad hobby.

NEVADA — After the success of the first Women Helping Other Women series in January, the group is pleased to announce a summer event, from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 15 at White Shutter Winery, in Nevada. The event will feature two speakers, Megan Bair CNM from Wyandot Memorial Hospital, who will speak on human trafficking; and BJ Dunn from Carey, who will speak about women’s self defense and demonstrate some basic self-defense moves.

The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey welcomes everyone to join them now through Wednesday for the annual novena to Our Lady of Consolation in preparation for the feast of her Assumption. The annual celebration of Mary’s Assumption into heaven is the largest event at the Shrine.

Nantucket Greene and Crawford Place present Experience Upper Sandusky Community Day from 12-5 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Nantucket Greene Community Building/Lot, 200 Nantucket Drive, Upper Sandusky. Food, games, fellowship and door prizes will be available at the event, which is sponsored entirely by Upper Sandusky businesses and organizations.

A Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national kick-off presentation event is 11 a.m. Friday at the U.S. 23/15 northbound rest area between Upper Sandusky and Carey. The event is hosted by the Wyandot County Safe Communities Coalition.

BUCYRUS — Coach Tim Brown Author of “Boys Won’t Be Boys” and “Uncommon Athletes” along with being the camp ministry director for Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be the guest speaker for the Men’s Community Breakfast. The breakfast is 7 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Bucyrus Community Hospital Cafeteria. Ladies are more than welcome to attend the breakfast.

Thomas and Janel (Shank) Needs, of Upper Sandusky are celebrating their 50th anniversary today. The couple was married Aug. 10, 1969, at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, in Bluffton.
