Dems hosting Oktoberfest fundraiser Saturday

The Wyandot Democratic Party recently announced its first annual multi-county Oktoberfest fundraiser from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 28 at White Shutter Winery & Brewery, 3794 CH 56, Nevada. This event includes Crawford, Hancock, Hardin, Marion, Seneca and Wyandot county Democratic parties.

Seneca County Genealogical Society meeting Tuesday

The Seneca County Genealogical Society is meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Frost-Kalnow Room of the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library. The program speaker is Mary Milne Jamba. Jamba will present “Haunted Ohio: Witches, Warlocks & Ghosts.” She will be showing how to use genealogy to illuminate the true story behind the legends.

Nineteen members and guest Jodi Phillips of Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International met Betsy Bowen Sept. 14 at Old Mission Church in Upper Sandusky. Bowen presented various interesting facts of the history of the church and Native Americans of the Wyandot tribe and its leaders. The church was built in 1824 and rebuilt in 1889. The U.S. government forced the Wyandots to move west in 1843, but the people did have a year to make a choice to move or not as a number of the Wyandots had intermarried with white families.

FINDLAY — The University of Findlay recently welcomed new undergraduate and graduate students to campus for fall 2019. Aaron Bame, of Carey, is pursuing a degree in computer science. Bame is a graduate of Carey Junior/Senior High School. Matthew Billock, of Carey, is pursuing a degree in business management.

Historic landmark turns 200

While in Upper Sandusky for the return of lands once belonging to their Wyandot ancestors, members of the Wyandotte Nation and the public were welcomed Sunday to the Indian Mill and dam to celebrate 200 years since it was built.

Big Buck contest application deadline is Friday

The deadline to enter the fouth annual Jacob Davidson Memorial Big Buck Contest for Wyandot and adjacent counties is 11:59 p.m. Sept. 27. The scoring event is April 4, 2020. Entry is a $20 donation and 50% of proceeds from the event go toward prize money and additional proceeds will benefit the Jacob Davidson Memorial Scholarship.
