CAREY — The regional volleyball tournament will be a new experience for the Carey volleyball program. Since the Blue Devils began playing the sport in 1975, they never won a district title before they dispatched New Riegel, 3-1, on Thursday at Findlay High School.

The Village of Sycamore held several contests Saturday for its Halloween in Sycamore event. The costume judging featured five age brackets and one group contest.

At 81 years old, Rosemary Austin can still flash some leather on the softball field. The Upper Sandusky resident recently traveled to Myrtle Beach for her final senior softball tournament of 2017, where she collected All-American honors while playing third base and catching for the Freedom Spirit.

LANCASTER — Owen Mawer led Upper Sandusky in the OHSAA Middle School/Junior High Invitational last Saturday at Lancaster High School. Mawer finished 25th in 12:09.6 in the Boys Race E, earning him a medal.

FINDLAY — Having lost to Liberty-Benton in the district final round three of the last four years, the Riverdale Falcons girls soccer team looked to build on its win over the Eagles in the regular season and take the district crown.

TIFFIN — A first-year cross country runner as a senior, Destini Oler did not know what to expect during Saturday’s regional race at Hedges-Boyer Park. She did not exactly stick to the plan, but it worked out anyway.

Cathy Hiner loves to work with her hands. A former United Methodist pastor, Hiner, 77, followed her daughter and moved to Upper Sandusky in 2009 and has been active with John Stewart United Methodist Church and the Wyandot County Council on Aging for the past seven years and counting.

ATTICA — Carey made tackles and played good defense in the first half, but from the opening kickoff of the second half, that changed. D.J. Ruffing returned that kick 82 yards for a touchdown, and the Tigers eventually ran away with a 42-13 victory against Carey to guarantee them a playoff game and leave the Blue Devils wondering if they would make the postseason. Ultimately, they did anyway.
