CAREY — Carey football coach Jonathon Mershman wasn’t sure what to expect heading into this season, but coming off of a historic win in the first-round playoff game, the first-year coach is hopeful the Blue Devils can make a deep run in the postseason.

Smith signs to play softball at NOSU

CAREY — It’s been quite a career for Carey High School senior Felicite Smith and it isn’t over yet. On Wednesday at Carey High School, Smith, surrounded by family members and coaches, signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Division II Northwest Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.

Breaking ground

Construction began Monday in front of the Wyandot County Courthouse. “We’ve been wanting to fix the crumbling curbs for a while now,” Wyandot County Commissioner Bill Clinger said. “We decided to get a two for one and replace the sidewalk near the front entrance as well.”

Over the weekend, Wagner Ford in Carey fell victim to a breaking and entering with tens of thousands of dollars of equipment stolen, including a large amount of employees’ personally-owned tools. BC closes out sweep with rally in 3rd set

ELIDA — A victory in a tight third set at least would have given Carey a chance to change its fortunes Saturday afternoon, but it was not mean to be. Buckeye Central star Jenna Karl had three key kills down the stretch to help her team sweep the Northern 10 Athletic Conference rival Blue Devils, 25-15, 25-20, 26-24, in a Division IV regional final volleyball match Saturday at Elida Fieldhouse.

Breece’s 3rd-quarter TD passes lift Rockets to win over Warriors

PANDORA — Mohawk seemed to have the momentum when it blocked a punt and scored a touchdown to open the second half, but Pandora-Gilboa stole it back quickly on the arm of quarterback Jared Breece. He threw a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes, and the No. 3 Rockets held off the No. 6 Warriors, 19-15, in a Division VII Region 26 first-round playoff game Friday night in Pandora.
