BUCYRUS — Wyatt Smith is expected to be a pocket-passing presence at quarterback for the Wynford football team, but he showed Friday night, he also can beat a team with his legs.

MOUNT GILEAD — Nate McMillan carried the load for Upper Sandusky, recording 343 rushing yards on 33 carries to lead the Rams to a 54-35 non-conference victory over Mount Gilead on the road Friday.

BUCYRUS — About 65 residents of the Wynford Local School District gathered Monday night to kick off a bond issue campaign to renovate and build an addition to Wynford High School. Former Wynford Board of Education member Jeffrey Schiefer is serving as campaign chairman.

CAREY — The Blue Devils’ busy volleyball week has not had an easy note. Carey was up-and-down in a win over Wynford, 25-13, 23-25, 25-7, 25-18, on Thursday.

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School district welcomes seven new educators this year, including two principals, a special education director and four teachers.

Brett Montgomery birdied four times while shooting a 33 to lead Upper Sandusky to a season-best score in a 163-207 victory against Mohawk on Wednesday at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

Dense fog settled on Upper Sandusky and the surrounding area this morning. The fog caused Upper Sandusky, Carey, Mohawk, Riverdale and Wynford schools all to close as the fog lingered late into the morning.

A truck cab burst into flames in the parking lot of a gas station Tuesday morning, drawing a quick response from Upper Sandusky firefighters. The department was notified of a fire at Love’s Truck Tire Care around 9:56 a.m., as the 1,000-gallon pumper was returning from a fire drill at Essex Place, according to the USFD report.

The Upper Sandusky volleyball team won its first match of the season with a 25-11, 25-12, 25-17 victory against Ridgedale on Tuesday evening. Kenedi Hayden and Emily Hill had eight kills each for the Rams (1-3, 1-1 Northern 10 Athletic Conference). Bre Rosario and Eve Smith both served three aces, and Lucy Smith had 29 assists.

Wyandot County Commissioners visited Swartz Covered Bridge (pictured) and Parker Covered Bridge on Monday to view construction progress. The historic bridges are being renovated by Righter Co., Columbus.
