Six breastfeeding mothers and community supporters gathered at Stepping Stones Park on Saturday morning for the third annual Wyandot County Latch On the Lawn, an event that raises awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.

Swim instructors

Twelve local water safety instructors recently took a refresher and upgrade class with Rebecca Fischer, aquatics specialist with the American Red Cross in Ohio. The course included new resources available to instructors online, like videos, skill sheets and lesson plans.

Local moms, kids get ready for Latch On

The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action organizes World Breastfeeding Week from Aug. 1-7 annually to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding and the need for global support. To mark the occasion, thousands of breastfeeding women and their babies and children across the world will gather in their own communities to take part in the global Big Latch On, a synchronized breastfeeding event.

Area coaches come together to organize benefit for Hirschys

BUCYRUS — On the court, most basketball coaches are enemies, but off the court, they can be the best of friends as evidenced by the support Dave Hirschy and his wife, Kathy, are receiving. Kathy was diagnosed with early-onset dementia more than three years ago at only 46 years old, and a number of coaches from north central Ohio have come together to put together the “August 1st” benefit to raise money for the family and for the Alzheimer’s Association.
