Wyandot County EMS/EMA held an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at its new building on the corner of North Warpole and Guthrie streets. Pastor Jim Stauffer offered a few words before the American Legion’s flag-raising ceremony near the front entrance.

MARENGO — Hillsdale only completed three passes, but it didn’t matter. Playing amidst temperatures hovering around 26 degrees with a steady wind, the Hillsdale Falcons rushed 43 times for 309 yards enroute to a 41-0 victory over Carey in a Division VI regional semifinal playoff game Friday at Highland High School.

The Wyandot County museum is going all out for Veterans Day this weekend, and with good reason. David John II, President of the Wyandot County Historical Society, is a navy veteran, Ronald Marvin Jr., museum curator, is an army veteran and Christine Mesmer, curator of the Overland Inn, also is an army veteran.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The staff and students of Riverdale know how to make their veterans feel appreciated. At an assembly for veterans in front of the middle and high school students Friday morning, the band played a melody of patriotic songs. The high school choir serenaded the veterans with “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Thursday morning, the Wyandot County Commissioners declared November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. A banner will be on display inside the Wyandot County Courthouse.

The public is invited to an open house from 12-4 p.m. Saturday at the new Wyandot County EMS facility at the corner of North Warpole and Guthrie Streets in Upper Sandusky. A special flag raising ceremony will take place at noon.

On Thursday, the Ohio Department of Transportation held its annual county-by-county readiness inspection.

A Wyandot County landmark barn on the Dick and Phyllis Gerber farm east of Upper Sandusky on CH 182 will soon be disappearing. The barn was built in the late 1800s and has to be torn down because of a deteriorating foundation and groundhog damage.

CAREY — Carey football coach Jonathon Mershman wasn’t sure what to expect heading into this season, but coming off of a historic win in the first-round playoff game, the first-year coach is hopeful the Blue Devils can make a deep run in the postseason.

CAREY — It’s been quite a career for Carey High School senior Felicite Smith and it isn’t over yet. On Wednesday at Carey High School, Smith, surrounded by family members and coaches, signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Division II Northwest Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.
