McCUTCHENVILLE — Members of the Veterans Heritage Foundation of Wyandot County spent part of Monday repairing the monuments of local veterans at St. John Cemetery in McCutchenville. The monument of Civil War veteran William Murphy was on its side and in pieces when the group arrived, but it was standing straight by the time the group was finished.

After nearly a year of searching, the unmarked Wyandot County Infirmary Cemetery has likely been found. Members of the Ohio Federation of K-9 Search Teams brought specially-trained dogs to the property of the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center over the weekend.

PITTSBURGH — An Upper Sandusky graduate has gone the extra mile in an attempt to cure her two-year-old nephew. With nephew Gavin Giacalone in need of a liver transplant to potentially cure his rare genetic disorder, GM3 Synthase Deficiency, aunt Michelle Shark (formerly Webster), a 2011 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, didn’t hesitate.

FOREST — The Forest Tree Town Festival, which will run July 6-8 at Gormley Park, will honor one of its most valued neighbors. Clayton Bash was named the grand marshal of the festival for 2018. His family farm abuts the village’s Gormley Park to the east and he has been a part of the Forest community his entire life.

In what is believed to be the first time ever, a member of the Wyandot County Midget Football League in Upper Sandusky has competed in the DI Savage Regional All Star game.

Members of the Wyandot County Special Olympics team were given a heroes’ welcome Thursday with an escort through downtown Sycamore provided by the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department.

Wyandot County residents are opening their homes and gardens to the public for a good cause early next month. The second annual home and garden tour takes place from 1-6 p.m. July 8 and will feature four area homes and two gardens in the county.

The Riverdale white team are the Hancock County Junior Pony League 2018 B Tournament Champions after a 6-3 victory over the Dunkirk Bears June 27 at Gormley Park in Forest.
