The Rams got a two-hit shutout with 17 strikeouts from Jason Holly and knocked off the three-time N10 champs 1-0 on Thursday at Upper Sandusky.

Did the Mohawk baseball team panic when the Wynford baseball team nearly erased the Warriors’ early three-run lead? Nope. Thanks to timely hitting and Mohawk’s Cole Widmer’s pitching, the Warriors added three more runs — two in the fifth and another in the top of the seventh — to pull away for a 6-2 victory over Wynford on Thursday at Wynford.

BUCYRUS — Businesses and organizations from the Wyandot, Bucyrus and Galion chambers of commerce had an opportunity to network Thursday at the inaugural Route 30 Business Expo, which was held at The Pickwick Place in Bucyrus. The event hosted several area businesses including the White Shutter Winery, Freedom Caregivers, A-1 Printing and Verne Hart Insurance as well as organizations including Community Opportunity and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Kimberly Miller-Smith, the central region manager for the Ohio School Board Association, recognized Crall for reaching the milestone at Wednesday’s regular board meeting with a distinguished board member award.

Upper Sandusky Middle School students had the opportunity to learn financial literacy skills during a reality store event Wednesday morning at Union School. The event taught seventh and eight grade students about the financial challenges they will face as adults. Local businesses and government officials were invited to participate at different tables for the interactive experience.

BUCYRUS — This wasn’t the first time that Carey junior shortstop Hailey Niederkohr hit a home run to lead off the game. On Wednesday, Niederkohr, hitting lead off once again, crushed the first pitch she saw from Wynford pitcher Hannah Messmer over the fence in right center, setting the tone for a day in which the Carey softball team hit three home runs in their 12-1 run-rule victory over Wynford in six innings at Wynford.

BUCYRUS — A young Carey baseball team grew up a little Wednesday. Rather than folding when it lost an early lead, the Blue Devils buckled down and won their first Northern 10 Athletic Conference game by rallying for a 9-6 road victory against Wynford.

McBride creates Easter book

Local author and illustrator Kelsey McBride has completed her latest coloring book just in time for Easter. The Easter-themed “Kelsey and Friends in: Hip-Hoppin Easter” finished printing Tuesday and was picked up by McBride at A-1 Printing in Upper Sandusky.

The Upper Sandusky Community Library once again held its annual special story time featuring baby ducks and chicks Tuesday. The event added an extra element of fun to Story Time with Miss Jill led by Jill Stansbery, a youth coordinator with the library.
