New St. Peter School Principal Blake “The Principal” England yucks it up after winning in a sumo wrestling match against Nelson “The Babymaker” Kinley (center) at the St. Peter Festival Saturday.

Dogs had their day Sunday afternoon for Pawzfest 2019 at Harrison Smith Park in Upper Sandusky. The annual dog walk and fun day is hosted by the Wyandot County Humane Society.

The Wyandot Indian Mill Historical Site and Museum has a pair of bicentennial anniversaries this year. Museum Curator Robin Conley said 2019 is the 200-year anniversary of the saw mill and the dam on the Sandusky River.

The annual St. Peter Festival was kicked off with the St. Peter School Festival Running of the Colts, which included a 1-mile Family Fun Run (left) and 5K races Friday at Stepping Stones Park in Upper Sandusky. This year, the event included bubbles, glow sticks and a best dressed award.

BUCYRUS — After 32 years in education, Jeanne Thompson, the elementary guidance counselor at Wynford is setting off on a new adventure. She graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1987, and started out teaching at Colonel Crawford, where she graduated high school just a few years earlier. Her schedule allowed her to have a wide range of experiences throughout the day with seventh grade art classes in the morning and regular kindergarten classes in the afternoon.

The Upper Sandusky Fire Department is once again raising funds for fire safety education in Upper Sandusky. Fire Chief Michael MaGinn explained that the annual fundraiser is conducted through the national fire safety council but said that all the money received in Upper Sandusky stays in the community.

The Wyandot County Council on Aging gave out free doughnuts and coffee this morning at Senior Connection in Upper Sandusky to celebrate National Doughnut Day.

Brett Montgomery, of Harpster, putts Thursday in the Ohio Amateur qualifier at Mohawk Country Club. Montgomery shot an 88 on the soggy course. Britton Hensel, of Kenton, a Tiffin University golfer, won with a 3-under-par 69.

An Upper Sandusky woman’s vehicle was a total loss following a fire Wednesday morning on U.S. 23/U.S. 30 northbound south of CH 330. The Upper Sandusky Fire Department reports it received a call at 11:02 a.m. from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office about the vehicle fire.
