The Wyandot County Courthouse was evacuated Monday morning after a heating, ventilation and air conditioning motor overheated on the second floor, causing a burning smell and some smoke.

FOSTORIA — Saturday’s Fostoria Boosters East-West All-Star Football Game was more than just an exhibition game for Carey’s nine seniors and coaching staff. The Blue Devils were able to go out winners by helping the East end its eight-game losing streak to the West with a blocked field goal as time expired in an 18-16 victory at Memorial Stadium.

LEXINGTON — Former Wynford running back Blake Sparks and his North All-Stars teammates inserted the play into their playbook on the final day of practice. That play was a pass from former Seneca East running back Blaine Swartzmiller to Sparks, and with 3:08 remaining in the third quarter of the North Central Ohio All-Star Game on Saturday at Lexington, the North pulled the trigger on it.

The rivalry between Upper Sandusky and Carey will be taken to a whole new level this summer with the inaugural Battle of the Badges charity softball game. The game will feature the City of Upper Sandusky Police and Fire Departments teamed up against the Village of Carey Fire and Police Departments with major bragging rights on the line.

CAREY — Last year, the Carey Summer Sidewalk Sales enabled local businesses to entice area shoppers with outside sales, discounts, customer appreciation and prize giveaways. This year, the event was back with a different name, Salute to Business, a name chosen due to the fact it is taking place on Flag Day. The goal, to encourage area shoppers to shop locally and learn about local products and services, remains the same.

Upper Sandusky’s girls soccer, basketball and volleyball programs are dropping to Division III this year, while the boys basketball team is moving up to Division II.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale High School received news as sweet as honey Thursday. The school is the recipient of a grant from the Ohio State Beekeeping Association with the help of Hardin County Bee Inspector Sonny Ward.
