Neumeister’s Candy Shoppe in Upper Sandusky may have some new owners, but the old recipes are sticking around despite plenty of new menu options. Debbie and Tim Frey purchased Neumeister’s this past August and they finally had some free time to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Wyandot Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday.

The Upper Sandusky High School chess club hosted a community chess event at Senior Connection on Tuesday. The chess club will host its next event from 4-6 May 23 at the Upper Sandusky Community Library and players from beginner, intermediate and expert skill levels are invited.

The What’s Cookin’ recipe club met Monday at the Upper Sandusky Community Library for a post-Mother’s Day tea party. Attendees were asked to bring food they would normally make for a tea party.

SHELBY — Mohawk’s offense has been on fire, and no one has been hotter than first baseman Tess Weinandy. The sophomore slugged a key three-run home run in the third inning to lead the way in the Warriors’ 10-3 victory against top-seeded Monroeville in a Division IV district semifinal game Tuesday at Shelby.

Seven local high school baseball players will join 11 others on the Wyandot/Crawford County Team in the District 9 All-Star Game. The Wyandot/Crawford County Team will face the Richland County Team in the District 9 All-Star Game at 7 p.m. May 29 at the Sports Force Parks/Cedar Point Sports Center.

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk Local School District announced the hiring of five new teachers for the 2018-19 school year for its elementary and high schools Monday during the Board of Education meeting. Taylor Gillig was hired as a preschool teacher, Jenna Reneau was hired as an integrated preschool teacher, Sarah Rall was hired as a third grade ELA teacher, Madeline Steffan was hired as a kindergarten teacher and Morgan Noftz was hired as an intervention specialist for the high school.

SYCAMORE — In a warmup for district play, Riverdale defeated Mohawk, 3-1, in a nonconference baseball game Monday. Alec Loveridge went the distance on the mound for the Falcons (12-11) and gave up just one earned run on four hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts.

The Upper Sandusky Fire Department was named the winner of the Columbia Gas of Ohio Smell and Tell Firefighter Video Contest on Friday. Its video, raising awareness on how to identify natural gas and take action, received more than 3,500 votes.

St. Peter School in Upper Sandusky hosted an 80’s Prom fundraiser on Saturday. Entertainment included three 80’s cover bands a visit from a Prince impersonator.
