Royals’ Schiefer medals in N10 tourney

Tournament medalist

GALION — Mohawk had solid scores throughout its lineup and led area teams with a third-place finish Monday in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls golf tournament Monday at Valley View Golf Course. Seneca East edged Colonel Crawford for the tournament title 427-431. The Eagles nonetheless clinched at least a share of the overall championship but the Tigers can get a piece of the title if they can win dual matches this week against Wynford and Colonel Crawford.

Triple threat: Tyson triplets take top three spots in showmanship division

Top of Class

When the Tyson triplets, Nick, Landen and Conner, entered the arena for Junior Show Swine Showmanship in the beginner division, they didn’t expect the outcome would be the three of them in the first, second and third places. The three, age 11, are now in their second year of taking pigs to the fair, something they picked up from their cousins Jarod Fox and Grace Fox. They are members of the Carey Boys 4-H Club, of which their aunt and Grace and Jarod Fox’s mother, Kari Fox, is a co-adviser.

Lightning only thing to slow down Tigers

Unstoppable

GALION — Upper Sandusky was slow getting to the football field on Friday night opening the game with an unsportsmanlike penalty as it failed to get out of the locker room on time. It may have been a telling sign of things to come as the Rams appeared overmatched against Galion in nonconference play on Friday night. The Tigers were ahead 42-0 with 7:57 to go in the second quarter thanks to a dominant offense and stingy defense that forced two turnovers before the skies lit up and thunder rumbled in the distance, causing both teams to head to the locker rooms and fans to take cover in their vehicles.

CAREY — Weather was not going to prevent the Ashland Crestview vs. Carey high school football game from being played Friday night. The game’s start was delayed three hours due to lightning, and then another 30 minutes after heat lightning was observed in the first quarter, but play resumed. In the end, a first quarter field goal was all Ashland Crestview needed, defeating Carey 3-0 in a non-conference game that ended after midnight at C.B. Wentling Field in Carey.
