Jeff McClain, a Republican from Upper Sandusky, resigned from the seat earlier this fall before finishing his term.

COLUMBUS — Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger on Wednesday announced that Wesley A. Goodman, a Republican from Cardington, has been sworn in as state representative of the 87th House District.

Goodman fills the seat vacated by former Rep. Jeff McClain, a Republican from Upper Sandusky, who resigned earlier this fall.

Hailing from a family farm in Morrow County, Goodman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics and government from Ohio Wesleyan University. Inspired by his involvement in organizations like the Boy Scouts and the Sons of the American Legion, he developed a passion for his community early in life, prompting him to pursue an education and career in public service, according to a press release from Rosenberger’s office.

After college, Goodman worked briefly for former Ohio senator and current Attorney General Mike DeWine before joining the staff of Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan. For more than six years, he served Jordan and developed his own stances on “constitutional, fiscally responsible and pro-family policies” for Ohio and the rest of the nation, the release said. Most recently, Goodman was the managing director of the Conservative Action Project, an organization that facilitates a coalition of national conservative leaders.

“I am incredibly humbled by the opportunity to serve my family, friends, neighbors and the part of Ohio I am blessed to call home in the Ohio House of Representatives,” Goodman said in a written statement. “Ohioans are hungry for the type of bold, conservative solutions that will make our state the best place to live, work, raise a family, start a business and have the best shot at the American dream. I am ready to get to work for the hardworking families and taxpayers of the 87th District and thank them for the honor to serve and represent them.”

Goodman ran unopposed for the 87th Ohio House District seat in the November election. The 87th House District is comprised of Morrow, Crawford and Wyandot counties, as well as portions of Marion and Seneca counties.

Goodman and his wife Bethany reside in Cardington.
