She posted the top girls series of 588 to help the Royals win the team title. BUCYRUS — Wynford won the girls title over Upper Sandusky as the bowling season began with the Northern Ohio Bowling League Kickoff Tournament on Saturday at Suburban Lanes in Bucyrus. The Royals topped the Rams 3,080 to 3,009 for first place in the seven-team tournament. Liberty-Benton won the boys championship with 4,004 total pins, followed by Bucyrus with 3,900. Wynford was third at 3,837 and Upper Sandusky fourth with a 3,644 total. Wynford had both first-place individuals, Addison Sebring in the girls competition and Levi McLaughlin in the boys standings. Sebring helped the Royals girls win the championship with a three-game 588 series that started with a 211 game. She followed with scores of 176 and 171. Taylor Gilliam was third overall and had the top individual game of the day when she began with a 217. She followed with scores of 171 and 130 to total 518. Dana Hurst shot 380 with a high game of 147, Cheyenne Monk scored 376 by closing with a 141, and Rylee Candel scored 375 with a top game of 131. The Royals’ six Baker games, with players alternating frames, were 112, 166, 159, 125, 194 and 117 for a total of 873. Upper Sandusky was slightly better in the Baker games with a total of 881, with scores of 151, 137, 111, 154, 181 and 147, but it was not enough to cut into its deficit after the individual portion. Brynn Routzahn led the Rams individually by placing fourth overall with a 517 series that included games of 148, 178 and 191. Freshman Melanie Bowen was eighth with a 443 series with a high game of 161. Routzahn led her team and was fourth overall with a 517 series to help the Rams finish as runners-up. Aleah McCann added a 412 series for Upper Sandusky, and three different players took part in two games apiece. Lily Swartz shot 284, Michaelynn Hill 241 and Hayden Guinther 231. Seneca East’s Audra Miller was the individual runner-up with a 526 series. McLaughlin topped the boys field with a 701 series. He tied for the top individual game by starting with a 264 and then followed with a 257. His 180 was just enough to hold off Liberty-Benton’s Tyler Nauert, who finished with a 245 to shoot 699. The freshman had a strong debut by shooting a 611 series that ranked fifth overall in the tournament. Paul Motil added a 596 that ranked seventh individually and a high game of 214 for the Royals. Landen Bargar just missed the top 10 with a 550 series, including a pair of 191 games, and Weston Eulett shot 523 including a 223 game. Logan Bucher shot 268 in two games, and Shawn Wappelhorst had a 164 in his only game. Baker games of 205, 205, 130, 187, 150 and 158 for a total of 1,035 completed Wynford’s team score. Upper Sandusky freshman Bryson Stoneburner placed fifth overall with a 611 series that started with a 219 game. He added 213 and 179 after that. Her 518 series was good for third place for the champion Royals. Another freshman, Sylar Jones, was ninth with a 565 series with consistent scoring of 190, 181 and 194. Senior Afton Green was just outside of the top 10, shooting 545, led by a 199 second game. Clayton Bowen scored 485 with a high game of 176, and Rowen Kennedy finished at 475 with a 170 high score to round out the individual scores for the Rams. In Baker games, they shot 171, 217, 135, 191, 141 and 108 for a 963 total. The seven teams in the tournament last year competed in a bowling-only league, but the N10 sanctioned bowling as a league sport for the first time this season for the five schools that compete in it. The senior shot 199 in the second game and finished with a 545 series as the Rams took fourth place. The Rams were scheduled to host Fostoria today at Wyandot Lanes, but that match was postponed because of transportation issues. Their next match is 4 p.m. Wednesday against Seneca East at Dynasty Lanes. The Royals begin N10 competition with a big match against rival Bucyrus at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Suburban Lanes.
